In case you are not a sailor and some definitions have puzzled you, this glossary should help
A'lee: Pointing directly away from the wind
Bo’sun: Not an officer, but a leading seaman and immediate supervisor of deck crew who supervises the maintenance of deck gear.
Helm: The wheel or steering device
Leeward: The side of the vessel that is downwind
Quay: A wharf, generally concrete, stone, or metal, lying alongside or projecting into water for loading and unloading ships.
Schooner: A sailing vessel with two or more masts, fore and aft sails and the forward mast shorter than the rest.
Shroud: The stabilizing lines running from the sides of the vessel up to near the top of the masts.
Steamer: A steamship
Strikers: Actually a Navy term for low ranked or common seamen
Windward: The side of the vessel facing the incoming wind
