Steampunk
This school of Victorian science fiction also delights me, so much in fact I have been playing with images in that period as well. Steampunk, it's modern incarnation and, some would say, satire is a rather tough genre to explain. It all has to do with steam power, (duh), brass, rivets, (the more, the better), mad science, (the madder, the better), impossibly long and convoluted names, (the longer, . . . well, you get the idea) and beautiful, imperiled women. Here are samples that I have created along with my bow to gothic horror, Jane the Ripper.

Mad Science
The very essence of Mad Science, known to all as the cornerstone of Steampunk, is pictured here, with our archetypical researcher discovering . . . . . well, we can't quite say, though he looks terribly elated about it. Or perhaps the process merely releases Nitrous Oxide as a byproduct. Elements of nine separate photographs plus a good deal of painting in Photoshop are melded together to form a nighmarish image of science gone very, very wrong.) Each giclee print is hand signed and individually numbered, print runs do not exceed 25. This image is available in normal or antiqued versions |
The Timely Rescue . . .
of Col. A. V. Aytor and the Princess Xornia from the Bloodwing Apes of the Syrtis basin. Cut off from the rest of their expedition, our intrepid pair must put up a particularly doughty defense until Amelia Pearlheart, aviatrix nonparielle, is able to maneuver Thee Albion for an extraction at close quarters. Eight photographs and several Photoshop brushes are combined to create this image of action and adventure on an arid Martian landscape. Each giclee print is hand signed and individually numbered, print runs do not exceed 25. |
The Self-Adjusting Mechanism
Herr Doktor Fassbinder and his assistant, Rattenhirn, celebrate their latest success in an alternate steampunk universe. Their automaton, Helga, finishes the final adjustments prior to adventuring out on her own away from the laboratory in the background. This was created using 6 separate photographs and a great deal of reworking in Photoshop. (software of the gods) Each giclee print is hand signed and individually numbered, print runs do not exceed 25. |
Defense Of The Penrith Flyer
The Blood Apes of Mars are ever relentless in their efforts to defend their lands but thanks to Victorian technology, (culminating in the Culberson electromasterator and the McRobert anti-poo steambrella with which she is equipped) Lady Penrith is able to fight off the latest attack and safeguard her airship and flying laboratory contained herein. Each giclee print is hand signed and individually numbered, print runs do not exceed 25. |
Aboard The Aetherflyer
Target practice is always of primary importance. After all, one can never be sure when a sudden attack by uncivilized denizens of wherever you happen to be exploring will manifest itself. I used my photo of the whisper egg at the Corning Museum in New York for the spaceship window and created an outer space vista for the two models I shot in studio. Each giclee print is hand signed and individually numbered, print runs do not exceed 25. |
Jane The Ripper
Perhaps we were wrong. Perhaps Jack wasn't Jack at all. Perhaps Jack wasn't an outsider as we thought, but someone much closer and trusted and that's all the more frightening. The background is a photo of a London back street dating from the 1880's and used with permission of the London Museum. Hannah Carroll was shot in studio and added along with the fog and human residue. Each giclee print is hand signed and individually numbered, print runs do not exceed 25. |
